How Nesta AI works
Nesta AI is optional. It is off until you switch it on, on the "Before we start" screen or later in You → Privacy. Everything else in Nesta works without it.
What it does
- Ask Nesta: answers questions about pregnancy, recovery, pelvic floor health and food, using articles our reviewers have checked. Answers show their sources.
- Meal scans: estimates the key pregnancy nutrients in a meal photo and flags food-safety concerns such as raw fish or unpasteurized cheese.
- Your plan: helps adjust your daily suggestions from what you log.
What it does not do
- It does not diagnose, prescribe or replace your provider. Answers can be wrong; check anything important with your provider.
- It does not handle emergencies. If a question sounds urgent, Nesta shows warning signs and tells you to call your provider or 911.
- It never decides anything about your insurance, care or money.
What is shared with OpenAI
Nesta AI uses OpenAI's API to generate answers.
| Sent | Never sent |
|---|---|
| The question you type or the meal photo you take; your stage and week (for example "pregnant, week 24"); the relevant article text; short notes Nesta remembers for you (see below) | Your name, email address, account ID, or anything else that identifies you |
- OpenAI does not use this data to train its models.
- OpenAI may keep it for up to 30 days to check for abuse, then deletes it. [Confirm: or zero-day retention, if enabled for the account]
- Nesta keeps your questions and answers in your account so you can see them again, until you delete them or your account.
Memory
To give answers that fit you, Nesta may remember short facts from your logs and questions (for example "prefers vegetarian meals" or "second baby"). You can see and delete them in You → Privacy → Nesta AI memory, or switch memory off.
Turning it off
Go to You → Manage consents and switch off Nesta AI. Nothing more is sent to OpenAI after that. Ask Nesta and meal scans are then unavailable; everything else keeps working.
